Eat, Drink and Enjoy Great Design at Hudson Hall

No one will ever accuse us of being big beer drinkers, but that’s a non-factor when it comes to our total fandom of Hudson Hall, the Eastern-European themed smoke house and beer garden on Marin Boulevard. Opened in 2017 (where Powerhouse Lounge used to be), the space has been meticulously restored to its old-world glory, with stunning results. The original floorboards have been refurbished as dining tables, and the gorgeous exposed brick was uncovered during the extensive remodeling. We also love the subway tiling and the many fun but functional design features, including the main bar’s beer taps, which were actually imported from Europe. It’s massive and somehow manages to feel cozy, and the unique seating arrangements (including a picnic table) make it work perfectly for dinner for two or a big group outing.

When it comes to the food, expertly done fermenting, curing and pickling are the order of the day. The house-made pastrami is super popular for good reason, but we’re partial to the BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich, when the mood hits us for such an indulgence. To our vegetarian and pescatarian friends, you are so well taken care of here. The three preparations of Haus Sausage Sandwiches can all be ordered with a plant-based protein as a substitute. There’s a great selection of veggie salads and potato-and-cheese pierogies, along with lots of veggie comfort classics. The Salmon Sandwich, served with avocado, lettuce and tomato is a standout, as is the Lobster Roll, with clarified butter and celery salt.

As for drinks, the draft beer list is extensive and overwhelming (to us non-beer drinkers, at least), but the friendly staff is happy to help with selection. There’s a huge selection of fancy bourbons (and other fancy cocktails). Kids are more than welcome, and there is a menu just for them. This is pretty much the perfect spot for a large group with disparate tastes and proclivities. Everyone is welcome and well attended to by the super nice staff. Can’t get much better than that!
