Broa Café, Michael Casalinho’s beloved Portuguese restaurant on Grove Street, is in the process of moving into a bigger location a few doors down – great news for the many devoted fans of his authentic Portuguese food. Even better news is that the super-talented chef has opened two new spots to satiate us while we wait for the new location of Broa.

Tamborin Bar and Grill -

Tamborin Bar and Grill is his new Brazilian restaurant, located at 130 Newark Ave. on the Pedestrian Plaza. Must-tries for your first outing (or order) include a starter of the cheese bread followed by the classic Brazilian dish Feijoada – a Black Bean Stew filled with linguica, pork, rice, black beans, collard greens and farofa -yucca flower infused with spices and butter. We also love the Salgados – Brazilian-style turnovers. Our favorites are the Coxinha (chicken croquettes) and the Cod fish cakes. The desserts are expectedly fantastic. Our favorite is the Mousse de Maracuja – a Mousse made of Passion Fruit, sugar, and condensed milk.

Tamborin is currently open Tuesday – Saturday from 4:30-10pm, no reservations accepted. To Order online click here: olo.spoton.com/5fac91a39adef32559e3b744

Eira Café -

Eira is a Portuguese-style bakery located at 24 Mercer, in the former home of Kraverie adjacent to City Hall. Come for the crazy delicious breads and favorites like the Pastel de Nata – an egg custard tart with sugar and cinnamon, and the Bolas de Berlim – the Portuguese style fried doughnut filled with egg yolk and topped with powdered sugar. There are also sandwiches, soups and salads to come. Eira Café is currently opened Tuesday – Saturday from 10:30am – 4:30pm. Follow them on IG @eira_pt for updates on hours and the menu.
