NYC’s acclaimed Japanese restaurant DomoDomo has expanded to JC – on the ground floor of the Urby building, to be exact.  Like the original West Village location, it’s made a big splash in a short period of time. Thanks to the amazing food and stunning design, it is a perfect fit at this already-fabulous building.

Chef Brian Kim’s menu consists of sushi, hand rolls, and hot and cold dishes. His commitment to, above all else, the freshest ingredients available is evidenced by the “Domokase”. It’s his - play on Japanese omokase-style dining, where diners allow the Chef to create the night’s meal based on what’s best and available in season. Other special touches include the specially harvested seaweed, house-made sauces, and signature warm rice.

Creative Director Jae Park (Kim’s brother-in-law) has recreated the stunning minimalist design of the original spot and it works beautifully here. There’s that restaurant-as-scene vibe and yet while the food is beyond top-rate, it’s also attainable. So much so that the original Dodoma won Michelin’s Bib Gourmand award year 4 years running for serving exemplary food at reasonable prices.

There’s also a full bar, including an extensive sake list and Japanese whiskey.

Monday through Saturday, DomoDomo serves lunch from 11:30 pm to 2:30 pm and reopens for dinner at 5:00 pm. What a welcome addition to the Waterfront dining scene!
