Fun Games & Great Grub at Greene Hook

The Paulus Hook waterfront has a trusted neighborhood local in Greene Hook. The warm wood bar is beautiful and inviting and the outside area replete with multicolored picnic tables is spacious and fun. The emphasis on games is such a score – there are plenty of classic board games to play and they have a shuffleboard league on Sunday and Tuesday nights (you can email greene@greenehook.com for more information or to join).

Greene Hook has a nice list of beers on draft and an equally great cocktail list that puts a Jersey City-centric spin on classic cocktails. This includes the Greene and Grand Dirty Martini, the Paulus Hook Dark and Stormy, and new inventions like the Greene Hook Cocktail – Bulleit Rye, Antica Vermouth, and Grand Marnier served with bitters and cherry, and the JC Strong Ass – concocted with locally made Misunderstood Ginger Spiced Whiskey and lime juice, syrup, and ginger beer.

The food is super comfy comfort food, everything you expect or want from a neighborhood bar and done exceptionally well. The fries – thin and crispy and perfectly salted. The burgers, fried chicken, the tacos – all scrumptious. It’s the kind of place for a pig out afterwards feels well worth it. That said, for all the fun and indulgence on the drinks and food menus, our favorite dish at Greene Hook is super healthy. The Chef Vegetarian Plate is fantastic – mushroom basmati rice, tomato braised chickpeas and ginger spinach puree, served with grilled naan bread. Delicious with or without a side of fries!
