Gem of A Gastropub in The Heights
Running a restaurant and/or live music venue are notoriously tough businesses, but you’d never know it walking into the Fox & Crow, the beloved JC Heights gastropub and live music lounge. It’s the kind of place you immediately settle into for longer than intended. The relaxed, effortlessly friendly service and vibe is a wonderful backdrop to fantastic food, heady cocktails, a terrific beer selection, and first-rate music.
Food first – elevated pub grub at its best. We are huge fans of the Mariner – pan-seared tuna, crusted with sesame and served with Asian slaw. Ditto the Spicy Crow – sumptuous fried chicken with avocado and a chipotle mayo kick. On our last visit, our attempt to resist Art’s Nachos and hand-cut pub fries was a failure, after a few cocktails, but it was a failure well worth every calorie.
Beyond food and drink, one of the biggest draws here is the performances in the parlor lounge. Cozy as the front of house, the parlor hosts big-time talented artists – musicians and spoken-word artists of all stripes. Booking is handled by Margo Parks, a Heights resident, music industry professional and Artistic Director of The Riverview Jazz Association. She and her husband, celebrated guitarist Walter Parks, are Congress St. residents who have done so much to build connections among the many professional and up-and-coming musicians in JC. It’s a treasure, The Fox & Crow, and we hope to see you there!
