Perhaps charitable donations are not on the top of To Do lists in January, a month when we typically try to trim back on the financial expenditures of the holiday season. That said, there is a very special donation drive happening at the Liberty Humane Society, and truly every bit will help.

Here’s the story. LHS has broken ground on a dream project – a renovated, expanded dog kennel. Plans for the open, bright space include a new medical and isolation space, a dog play area and community room, and larger dog runs. With the help of community partners and individual donors, and led by the dedicated staff and volunteers, LHS has already raised an (incredible) $250,00 towards finishing this project. What’s needed? $150,000 more in order to finish construction by Spring 2020.

Just in case you aren’t familiar with the work of LHS, they are an open admission shelter that contracts with Jersey City, Bayonne and Hoboken. This means that every stray animal found in these cities is brought to LHS, day or night. Each year, they care for, treat and find homes for thousands of cats and dogs, provide humane education programs to the community, and provide low-cost veterinary services and preventative services. The services they provide year-round for dogs, cats, other small animals, and pet owners across the City is so deserving of our community support. There’s also plenty of other ways to contribute to their work, such as volunteering. We highly suggest a visit to LHS in person to see the work they do, the adorable animals in their care, and how you can help. Side note – for anyone in the midst of a New Year’s decluttering resolution, LHS is always grateful for towels, blankets, sheets and other items that can help make an animal’s life a little bit more comfortable as they await their forever home.
