Raise Your Mug to Hidden Grounds
Attention, fans of Hidden Grounds Coffee (and those who love great coffee in general) – their second location in Jersey City is now up and running. It’s located in a sunny spot at 276 1st St., seconds from the Newark Ave. Pedestrian Plaza and minutes away from the original one at 148 1st St.
Hidden Grounds first came to be back in 2013, when a small group of twenty-something friends opened a shop in New Brunswick. 7 years on and they cheerfully reign over a mini caffeine empire, with 6 shops in total – two each in JC, Hoboken and New Brunswick.
All of the traditional barista-prepared drinks are excellent as expected, as are the specialty drinks like Creole Style Cold Brew and Chais like the Rose Chai and the Classic Masala Chai. To that, as much as the folks at Hidden Grounds seriously love all things coffee, they are also seriously into Chai, so much so that their original location in New Brunswick has been reimagined and is now Simply Chai.
Like all the Hidden Grounds cafes, the interior of the new one is delightful, all white and soft pink and gold. The staff is engaging and friendly and eager to let you sample anything you wish. On the food front, pastries, croissants (gluten-free and vegan options included) from Le Petit Bakery in NYC are now being sold. Look for both the drinks and food menu to expand to include their entire offerings in the months to come.
