Rich Flavors at Poor Man Vegan
Monticello Avenue has a new vegan restaurant. Poor Man Vegan opened in May serving vegan comfort food at budget friendly prices. The wife and husband team behind this new spot began their business as a vegan catering service, delivering food and baked treats to events and parties.
The cupcake delivery business really took off, and we can see why – they are truly delightful. There are lots of other sweet treats to sample here too. Check out the key lime raspberry cheesecakes, chocolate chip cookies, beautiful ube cupcakes served in a mason jar, and assortment of muffins.
OK, now that we did dessert first…Poor Man’s main dishes include classic comfort food like Beyond Burgers and Cheeseburgers (served on a pretzel bun) with fries, grilled cheeses and chicken nuggets. Their empanadas are made fresh each morning and come in beef, spinach and cheese, taco, sloppy joe, chicken and BBQ chicken iterations.
Poor Man also has a buffet. The menu rotates daily but typically includes a rice or pasta main with two sides available. We loved the carrots and kale on our last jaunt and hope they make it into regular rotation.
Poor Man Vegan recently introduced new summer hours. They are currently open Tuesday – Wednesday from 11am – 6pm, Thursday and Friday from 11am – 7pm, Saturday from 10am – 3pm, and closed on Sunday and Monday. Buffet hours are 11am – 4pm Tuesday – Friday.
