The Cottage Artisanal Market is now open, bringing an authentic slice of curated country charm to 136 Monticello Avenue. The bright yellow awning cheerfully beckons you into the cozy cafe serving first rate coffee, pastries, and lunch specials, along with a range of artisanal products and charming gifts. Head out back and you will find the outdoor event space that can hold up to 50 people. It is partially covered and adorably decorated with macrame and the like to match the charming farm-stand vibe.

So first off, the eats. Open daily from 8am to 5pm (except Mondays), the Cottage serves homemade overnight oats, fresh chocolate, spinach and ricotta, ham and cheese and almond croissants. We loved the lunch specials we sampled, specifically the mushroom quiche and the tortellini and arugula salad. You will also find desserts and savory treats from vendors like the Cookie Cake Company and Balthazar. On the weekends, the Cottage sells out early of the Doughnut Plant’s delectable doughnuts. There are plenty of vegan and vegetarian treats too, including the hugely popular Cocojune vegan yogurt.

There is a lovely range of homemade jellies, jams, and pickled vegetables in pretty mason jars. These would make a delightful and unique gift, as would the fun line of kitschy candles and totes from cult brand BobbyK - really, who wouldn’t love a set of matching Dolly Parton candles packaged in a tote also bearing her iconic image? There are plenty of other fun gift items like the home fermentation kit and packages of homemade candies. It is truly a great place to eat/shop local and ethically – the Cottage uses only sustainably and eco-friendly packaging.

Congratulations to yet another innovative small business opening in JC this year, of all years. Be sure to check them out – you will leave happy!
