Meditation Courses and New Year Workshops at Asana Soul Practice
The philosophy behind this friendly Downtown studio is that “mindfulness is a journey, not a destination.” Artfully designed studios and a first-rate surround-sound music system bolster the welcoming vibe at the studios’ yoga and meditation classes.
Ok, ready to meditate?
Try out the 30-minute Guided Meditation Class, to quiet and re-center the mind with breathing techniques, reciting mantras and setting intentions. This class is also offered at night, with soothing candlelight. There’s also the adventurous-sounding Sound Bath Meditation, offered twice a month, with a sound meditation instrumentalist offering Tibetan Singing Bowls, Bamboo Flutes, Meditation Drumming and Crystal Bowls.
We’re also super-intrigued by two workshops on offer at Asana:
New Year’s Transformation, Sunday January 6th, 12:15 – 2:15 pm.
A two-hour workshop to plant the seeds of transformation we have in store, and to water them generously with yoga, intention settings, and a series of mantras.
Malas, Mantras and Manifestation, Sunday, March 10, 1:00 – 2:30 pm
Malas are beads utilized in meditation to cultivate focus and calm. In this course, malas are cleansed to be charged with unique energies; “In this special meditation experience we will cleanse our malas and charge them with our unique energies. We will meditate to find an intention that speaks to our souls and recite mantras to manifest what we wish to attract in our lives. Leave in alignment with your hearts desires with a beautiful mala to remind you of the intention you’ve set.”

Jivamukti Yoga and Meditation at the Jivamukti Yoga Studio
This beloved local studio offers 95-minute yoga classes that instruct in both the physical and spiritual components of Jivamukti practice. Short for time? The Spiritual Warrior class is a condensed 60min version and is designed as an express workout while covering the basic components of a Jivamukti Class. There is also a 4 part Basics YogaSeries that will provide students with an excellent foundation for a lifelong yoga practice.
The Jivamukti Meditation class is instructed in three steps: Choose your seat, Be still, and Focus. A mantra to “Let-Go”, combined with breathing techniques, align to allow for self-realization. Teachers field questions post-meditation, and the class ends with closing prayers. The class is open to all looking to quiet their minds and reach for enlightenment.

Community-Led Meditation Hosted at Yoga Shunya
Sun of Awareness Sangha is a local mindfulness/meditation practice group founded in 2009. The group explores multiple meditation disciplines and meets on Sunday mornings from 9am-10:30am at Yoga Shunya, who offer their space for free. Meetings typically incorporate a silent or guided sitting meditation, a walking meditation, a reading and dharma sharing, and one final sitting meditation. All are welcome. The practice is free, but $5-10 donations to Yoga Shunya are encouraged.
