New Paulus Hook Restaurant is an Instant Treasure

The team behind the neighborhood’s beloved Satis Bistro brings us a new upscale dining experience with 87 Sussex. The two-story spot has a full-service bar as well as two dining rooms that are beautifully lit and designed to enhance the dinner experience.

Open for dinner 7 days a week since their February open, 87 Sussex has come out of the gate fully realized. The menu choices are a globally inspired infusion of European, Asian and Modern American cuisine while ingredients are locally sourced. The wine list is also chock full of super-interesting domestic and international selections. And then there is the delightful cocktail list. Shout out in particular to the Paulus Hook Sour – Basil Hayden Bourbon, Demerara, Fresh Lemon and Fee Foam with a Red Wine Topper.

Menu highlights include the Herb Crusted Lamb Chop with Butter Poached Bok Choy, Black Mission Figs, Gratin Dauphinoise and mint jus. The sole vegetarian/vegan entrée, The Warm Winter Tagine, is an absolute knockout. It is a beautiful colorful plate of purply-black forbidden rice, tender Szechuan tofu, seasonal vegetables, beans and flavors of coconut essence and pomegranate. Truly delicious and satisfying,

The service is, in a word, perfect. Attentive and anticipatory but not at all intrusive. In fact on our dinner night it seemed like every single person in the restaurant was having a fabulous time – from servers to barstaff to lucky customers. What more could you want?!
