Battello is Back in Business
Battello is back in action, after a lengthy hiatus forced by needed structural repairs on their pier/home. The space looks as beautiful as ever, and there’s new cuisine and cocktails to enjoy while soaking in that breathtaking waterfront view.
Chef Ryan DePersio is the NJ culinary superstar behind Montclair’s Fascino, Newark’s NICO Kitchen & Bar, and Battello and Kitchen Step here in JC. To celebrate the reopening, he’s added new dishes and desserts to the menu. We loved the revamped Grilled Octopus and happily indulged in the Dry Aged Sirloin and Short Rib, finished off with the heavenly Ricotta Zeppoles. Next visit we plan to try the new Squid Ink Torchio, which our dining companion raved about.
We’ve written before about mixologist Ray Keane’s amazing cocktails at Kitchen Step, and DePersio enlisted him to create a new drinks menu for Battelo. Our new faves include his take on the classic Old Fashioned, made with bourbon, hibiscus and bitters, and The Royal Navy, created with local distillery Corgi Spirit’s Earl Grey Gin, chamomile, lemon and cucumber.
We’re so happy to have Battello back. It’s our go-to spot for bringing out of town guests and others looking for a scene-y night out to accompany their great meal. And, we can’t wait to revisit the exquisite summertime pleasure, after a hard day’s work, of watching the sunset, cocktail in hand, on Battelo’s deck. See you there!
