Clean Out, Give Out in JC
Is it closet cleanout season for you? Out with the old, in with the new? If that is the case, there are plenty of wonderful local organizations that accept gently used clothing donations. Some but not all organizations ask for clothes to be donated fresh from the dry-cleaner or at the very least the laundromat. We think it is a nice touch and makes less work for organizations and recipients. There are lots of places to donate in Jersey City (Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.) but we just want to shout out two very special organizations in Jersey City. And if you are feeling especially magnanimous, they could both use support in lots of ways.
The Triangle Park Community Center (TPCC) in Greenville is a community center founded in 2017 by Episcopal Jersey City – a ministry of JC Episcopal churches of St. Paul and Incarnation and Van Vorst. Partnering with other community groups in the city, Director Monica Shaw and her team of resolute volunteers work hard to fulfill their simple and powerful mission – to improve the lives of neighbors. Normal hours of operation are Monday – Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Saturdays are for special programs and projects. They run a food pantry, offer medical screenings, provide support and supplies for mothers and infants and so much more. Clothing donations are happily accepted here.

Welcome Home Jersey City was created in 2016 and offers educational, employment and material support for refugees and asylum-seekers in the Jersey City area. Welcome Home operates from the philosophy that all people deserve the dignity of a decent home and the resources they need to make a better life for themselves. The amount of assistance and support they provide through their programs is truly astounding – support groups, tutoring, social clubs for kids, ESL workshops, job training and assistance, etc. Check out their website for the donations they are currently looking for. If clothing is not on the immediate list, just hold off as they routinely hold clothing drives throughout the year.
