Divine Dulce De Leche Never Disappoints

Argentinian Bakery Dulce De Leche is most famous for their cakes. Blissfully beautiful concoctions that taste as scrumptious as they look. The signature House Cake is a vanilla cake with layers of dulce de leche, whipped cream and peaches covered in a topping of crunchy merengue - somehow both light and decadent at once.  Other cakes in the display case at the 3 locations (Jersey City, West New York and the Heights) include Coconut Mousse, Tiramisu, Tres Leches (essentially the House Cake with the addition of Bavarian Cream) and a chocolate and vanilla Double Mousse.  Most cakes are also available by the slice. There are so many other sweets to sample – fruit tarts, chocolate custards, elephant ears, Argentinian-Style sweet bread and pastries, etc. All are perfectly complemented by the outstanding Café Con Leche. If you are opting off the caffeine train, there is a nice selection of fresh juices too.

The savory dishes at Dulce De Leche are just as good. Our favorite breakfast dish is The Skillet – two fried eggs with onion, pepper, crumbled bacon and a very healthy portion of potatoes. We are also big fans of the Spanish Tortilla, the Spinach Puff Pastry and the Egg Sandwiches.  Breakfast dishes are served until 3 pm, as are the lunch plates. If you are grabbing to go, the excellent egg salad is pre-packaged along with some good salads and crustless sandwiches. Hot lunch plates include the Lomito (Steak Sandwich with fries), the Churi Pan (grilled Argentinian sausage sandwich with chimichurri sauce) and Chicken or Beef Milanese.  And of course, let us not forget the empanadas – available with chicken, cheese, spinach or beef.

Dulce De Leche has been in business since 2007 and it is easy to see why – this place is truly a gem.
