Jennifer Choi and her team at Sugarsuckle create extraordinary works of art. Upon opening in 2018, their custom cakes, cookies, cake pops and desserts in a jar made Sugarsuckle the go-to bakery among event planners looking for exquisitely tasteful desserts that provide visual wow along with tasting great. That distinction (Sugarsuckle’s creative concoctions taste as sublime as they look) really set them apart as there are many high-concept desserts that look dazzling but taste average at best.

Cake flavors are vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, and lemon. Frostings are either a thin layer of fondant or Italian meringue buttercream, which is also used as a filling in an assortment of delicious flavors including passion fruit, salted caramel, and strawberry.

Like so many small businesses in Hoboken, Sugarsuckle’s ability to execute their business model came to a crashing halt with the onset of the pandemic. And, like so many of these businesses, Sugarsuckle came up with creative ways to survive, such as DIY baking kits for folks to make their own fancy desserts at home.

Today, Sugarsuckle has an online ordering business for small cakes, cookies, and DIY desserts. Pre-ordering is required for pickup as well as delivery, which is available within Hoboken and Jersey City. Hours are Wednesday – Friday from 10am – 5pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 12pm. Custom cake orders are still available, and onsite events like small birthday parties are now back in action.

We all deserve to treat ourselves these days, and if it is a first-class sweet splurge you fancy, Sugarsuckle is it!
