Iggi Olorun Metaphysical Botanica
Two of our 2022 resolutions: Continue to support small JC businesses and be open to incorporating small-scale new practices to stay centered and reduce stress. We are going to start with a January visit to Iggi Olorun Metaphysical Botanica, a very special little shop on Barrow St. with a long history here in Jersey City. Here is a little excerpt about this business from their website:
“Over 50 years ago, Grandma (as she is warmly known) opened a Metaphysical shop, also known as a “Botanica” in Downtown Jersey City. After her retirement, she passed the business down to her grandson, Gino, who is also blessed with divine spirituality. Gino is a Babalawo who received his divination in Nigeria. Throughout the years he has kept her mission alive, to help bring peace and guidance to those in search of it.”
The store offers readings, candles, herbs, sages, essential oils, scents, washes for the bath and your home, and much more. If you are wondering what religious practice they employ, the website explains it as such: an ancient spiritualism based in Africa known as Lucumi or Ifa. Many in the Latin Caribbean are familiar with Santeria. This is what Santeria evolved from.
Iggi Olorun is open to folks from all walks of life regardless of race, creed, religious belief, gender, etc. And nice to know your doggies are welcome too. The hours are not that widespread – Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm and Saturdays from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
