Glam, Crafty Mocktails to Make Dry January a Breeze

Cocktail-ed out after the holiday season? If you are implementing a Dry January, don’t let that impede your social life. Craft mocktails are becoming staples at many dining establishments as there seems to be a growing movement out there to make alcohol less of a required staple for socializing. Here is a shortlist of some fabulous craft mocktails around the way…

Frankie’s (264 Grove St., http://www.frankieeatsjc.com/) is an Australian lifestyle – themed eatery located steps from City Hall. Their $10 Mocktail list includes Nico’s Song (fresh beet, OJ, ginger and seltzer), Flower in the Sun (fresh pineapple juice, thyme, egg white and lime), and Lady Stardust (fresh carrot juice, ginger and lime). All of these can be infused with Rosebud CBD for an extra $4.

Touch the Heart (324 Washington St. in Hoboken, https://touchthehearthoboken.com/) is such a lovely spot – part flower shop and full-on restaurant with modern takes on Chinese cuisine and dim sum. They also have a great list of mocktails, including Strawberry Smash (muddled fresh strawberries, peach oolong black tea, and pineapple and cranberry juice topped with mint), Thai Basil Lemonade, Pineapple Fizz (fresh pineapple, rosemary-lemon syrup and club soda), and the Magic Mule (butterfly flower ice, lime juice, cinnamon syrup, ginger beer and club soda). All of these are available by the glass or by the pitcher.

Kitchen Step (500 Jersey Ave., https://www.kitchenstepjc.com/) is one of our favorite spots in town for not just the food and ambiance but their delightful bespoke cocktails. The non-alcoholic drinks here are equally delicious. Charlotte’s Secret Garden is made from Seedlip Garden, cardamon, lime and seltzer. The Bunny Slope is made from Seedlip Spice, hot cocoa and mini marshmallows.

Battello (502 Washington Boulevard, https://www.battellojc.com/) will be closed until January 7, a decision they made for the safety of staff and patrons. When this beautiful waterfront spot reopens, you can enjoy the Red Moon Rising (blood orange, lime, pink peppercorn syrup and club soda) or the Portside Pear (demerara, pear, yuzu, fever tree sparkling and lemon).

Let’s raise a non-headache inducing glass to a wonderful 2022 for all.
