In McGinley Square: Ice Cream, Sweets and More...

Since opening in McGinley Square this March, Crema has quickly become a neighborhood staple for families, freelancers, and other residents looking for locally sourced, super high-quality ice cream, coffee, baked goods and artisan toasts.

First off, the ice cream! It’s made from grass-fed milk from the Amish Country. There are classic flavors and treats, like the ever-popular Root Beer Float. That said, the House Special – the Crema Milkshake (coffee ice cream with a shot of espresso) – is a must-try for the caffeine tolerant. There are also seasonal flavor specials. We sampled the blueberry, peach and lemon flavors – all equally delicious.

The coffee is from Jersey City roasters Kobrick’s, and the bread for the toasts is local, too. Choose from Elio’s sourdough or gluten-free breads when sampling among the sweet and savory options. Highlights include the homemade brisket with caramelized onions and fresh herbs, and the cream cheese and smoked salmon toast that is topped with Persian cucumbers and dill. Kids tend toward the Nutella and banana toast, and there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options as well.

Other must-haves are the Argentinian empanadas, the homemade bread pudding, and the baked goods, of which there are gluten-free options.

It’s a pretty space (the former home of Harry’s coffee), with cheerful cloud-covered wallpaper and a play area for kids.

This summer, from July 1 – August 31, Crema will be expanding their operating hours. Weekdays, they will be open from 8am to 9pm, and on weekends, they will be open from 9am – 9pm.  Weekends will also offer Brunch Specials – the Eggs Benedict toast was extremely popular during our last Saturday visit.
