Blink and you’ll miss it, despite signs leading you to the front door.  KPOT Hot Pot and Barbeque opened 7 months in an unassuming storefront at the Old Colony marketplace on Grand Street. The funky grey décor and fun pop music provide a great backdrop to this fun dining experience, great for both groups and date nighters looking to mix it up a bit!

KPOT is a small yet rapidly expanding chain with three locations in Jersey, one in Maryland, and new locales set to open soon in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Utah.

The fusion menu blends Asian hot pot with Korean barbeque. Hot pot is an Asian cooking method where diners pick a soup base that is simmered at your table, on a grill. Your choice of meat, seafood, pork, rice or noodles is brought to the table for you to cook in the soup, and then eat with a selection of dipping sauces – some sweet, some spicy and some mild, like the  BBQ bean sauce. You also get a selection of tofu and both standard and exotic vegetables like taro, lotus root and winter melon. In truth, the variety of meats and veg to choose from was a bit overwhelming for first timers like us. If that’s you as well, be sure to ask your server for help selecting the best stuff to suit your palate.

Korean BBQ is also a tabletop cooking experience. Choose from a large selection of meat, chicken and seafood and have it grilled at the table, then pair with your favorite sauce, veg and choice of rice or noodle. We liked the Kpot Pork Belly, smothered in the KPot special sauce.

The restaurant also offers all-you-can-eat lunch and dinner options with prices that range from $15.99 (lunch) to $25.99 (weekend dinner). KPot is BYOB, so don’t forget to pick up your beverage of choice before heading over. Enjoy!
