Shopping doesn’t get any more ethically and environmentally conscious then at Plant Base, located in Bergen-Lafayette (right next door to Covetables, to boot). Zero-waste is the ethos here at this vegan market/café/store.

In addition to the smoothies, fresh juices, kombucha, coffee and coffee alternatives on tap, Plant Base offers a ready to eat menu of plant-based food and house-made cheeses. You can also shop for gifts like body care products and crystals, and bulk items such as nuts, grains, pasta, products, crystals and cleaning products that are packaged and sold to leave zero negative imprint on the environment. Plant Base uses reusable packaging materials, like mason jars to store and sell their groceries, and reusable tote bags are available on a communal basis at the market. That means single use packaging like plastics, cardboard boxes, and styrofoam are a no go at the shop.

Plant Base is also a community hub, with a steady stream of educational and community events, including hosting local bands at night. Currently, Plant Base is closed on Tuesdays, open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9:30 am – 8:30 pm, and Sunday from 11am – 7:30 pm.

Hats off to the Plant Base for bringing their idealism and ideas to this wonderful neighborhood!
