New Drop off Donation Center Downtown

We were saddened to learn recently that the Salvation Army in JC no longer accepts donations. Thankfully there is a new place to drop off donations downtown. Green Drop has set up a new location at Newport Plaza (that’s 125 18th Street, home of Acme, Best Buy, etc.). They accept donations of gently used clothing, shoes, blankets, kitchenware, toys, electronics, and household goods. They also accept tools, collectibles, kitchenware, toys, small appliances, electronics, musical instruments and sporting goods. All of these donations are tax-deductible.

So, here’s how it works on their end. Green Drop is a for-profit company that accepts donations on behalf of a local non-profit and pays them for the donations to help them fund local nonprofits.  Those donations then find themselves in thrift stores and out of landfills. In New Jersey, their non-profit partner is the American Red Cross.

Green Drop also does pick ups for business or anyone with donations of 40 bags and up. You can call them at  1-888-944-DROP for more info.

“We are thrilled to bring our sustainable services to Newport Plaza and provide an easy, earth-friendly way for Hudson County residents to support the American Red Cross,” said Jason Krieger, Director of GreenDrop operations.

The GreenDrop at Newport Plaza is open daily from 10 through 5pm.
