Super Sandwiches Downtown
Sub Culture is one of our favorite sandwich shops downtown. It is low-key special, located on a relatively quiet stretch of Newark Ave. and Coles St., west of the Pedestrian Plaza.
The business was opened in 2018 by the Roda family who have longstanding roots in Jersey City (over 70 years!), more than 35 of them spent in the restaurant business. You will feel that immediately when you walk in the small shop, adorned with photos of your favorite movies and a menu that is everything you want from comfort food. For sure, they pack a whole lot of culinary and cultural punch in their store front.
The affable owner, Nick Roda, created a menu that serves classic New Jersey Italian-American fare along with diner favorites. This means subs, sandwiches, wraps, bowls, smoothies, sides, salads, milkshakes and floats. Most of them are packaged and named with a delightful homage to movie nostalgia. We are talking about you, Parm Fiction and Guardians of the Garlic Bread.
Definitely check this place out – all of the cleverly named food is really good and accept our special shout out to their seafood specialty sandwiches. The staff could not be nicer, too!
Sub Culture is open 7 days a week – Sunday from 12pm – 8pm and Monday – Saturday from 11am- 8pm.
