We are officially in love with the work of Tara Kothari, a Jersey-City based artist who creates out of her studio at Mana Contemporary. A self-described botanical ceramicist and maker of whimsical pottery, we just adore her fun and clever themes. She has a fabulous collection of pieces that pay homage to Hoboken and Jersey City, including lovely holiday ornaments with the most charming puns (“Jersey City, Light at the End of the Tunnel” being our favorite). Her work is also downright beautiful. We love her botanical themed plates, mugs, bowls and trinket trays. Her line of holiday-themed pottery is so beautiful and elegant without being the least bit kitschy.
Tara’s floral designs include her process of pressing real leaves and flowers in clay. Once they burn out, she paints the fossils in vibrant colors and glazes to bring them back to life. Her work is a reflection of her love and appreciation of nature and each piece truly does feel organic, as if it sprang to life naturally.
