This Month: A Magnificient Masquerade Ball on the downtown JC Waterfront
We’ve written before about our love of the Jersey City Public Library. That’s why we are so excited to spread the word about a fabulous event this month to honor Library Director Priscilla Gardner and help raise critical funds for the local treasure that is the JCPL.
What: The “Masquerade Ball & Last Dance” will be the 16th Annual Fundraiser hosted by The Jersey City Library Foundation (which was founded by Director Gardner). This year’s celebration will be a joyful tribute to Gardner, who is retiring after an illustrious 50-year career that saw the library through major renovations, innovations, and expansions. Attendees are asked to dress to impress in a masquerade ball-inspired ensemble.
When & Where: Thursday, May 16, from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm. Harborside Atrium, 210 Hudson Street
Why: All proceeds from the event will go towards continued capital improvements to the Main Library, including the restoration of the historic Tiffany glass window and monumental marble staircase.
This event will also be a wonderful opportunity to honor Gardner, a true Jersey City heroine. She began her career as a Junior Library Assistant, and rose through the ranks to become the Library’s first African-American Director in 2002. Under her leadership, the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation has made critical contributions to the Library for the benefit of the entire JC Community. Those contributions include painstaking renovations of the historic Main Library, to ensure its ability to remain in glorious condition for many years to come. The Foundation is also responsible for the Glenn D. Cunningham Branch Library, which honors the late Mayor and opened in 2004.
The ADA-compliant Bookmobile you see around town, bringing books and services to all corners of the City? Also, the work of the Foundation, along with multiple renovations, capital upgrades, and digital resources and collections throughout branches in JC.
