Help Save an Iconic Jersey City Institution

Moore’s Lounge has brought so much jazz and joy to Jersey City for over 5 decades, and now they need our help.

Located at 189 Monticello, Moore’s has been a huge part of the local community for so long. Under the creative leadership of world-class jazz drummer Winand Harper, it has served as an informal incubator for up-and-coming musicians, a weekly source of incredible live music, and a place for the community to come together over drinks and great sounds. To put it simply, Moore’s is the real deal. And no matter how much money pours into Jersey City or how many new businesses open (no shade), when it comes to businesses like Moore’s, they just don’t make ‘em like they used to.

And now, due to some hard luck that befell many small businesses in the COVID era (as if running a bar wasn’t hard enough), Moore’s is asking for financial support, which is why two Moore’s employees, Chris Perez and Stephanie Jeter, have set up a GoFundMe page. As the page explains,

“As we know, the big banks and mortgage companies are NOT supposed to engage in redlining and other discriminatory practices but they do it anyway, with Moore’s as a perfect example.

Denied these traditional avenues of borrowing, the Moore family was forced to take out a hard money loan to do some much needed repairs in 2019. The Covid shutdown in March of 2020 could not have come at a worse time. The resulting late payments kicked up all kinds of predatory charges and fees along with the threat of foreclosure.”

So whether you are a jazz afficianado, small business supporter, supporter of black-owned businesses, a patron of the arts, or just love the people that make Jersey City so special – here is a real chance to make a difference.
