Adult Swim, Anyone?

Consider this our Summer Public Service Announcement. We were recently commiserating about the humidity/heat with friends who like many of us do not normally have time to head to the Shore to cool off. To that, we were surprised to hear how many fellow grownups are unaware of the early and very often uncrowded times for adults to swim laps throughout Jersey City. Perfect for waking up, getting your workout in and heading to work cool, revitalized and refreshed.

Outdoor Swimming

Lafayette Aquatic Center, 303 Van Horne St.

Situated in Bergen-Lafayette, this pool offers Adult Lap Swim Monday – Friday from 7am – 9am. And if you just want to chill in the cool water, there is room for that too! We are a little reluctant to share and ruin it, but in the morning this pool is inexplicably and wonderfully uncrowded.

Pavonia/Marion Municipal Pool, 914 Pavonia Ave.

Also open for Adult Lap Swim Monday – Friday from 7am – 9am. The lanes are not as long as at Lafayette but it is still a beautiful and serene spot to swim with some nice shade cover too. It does not have a designated parking lot like Lafayette, but street parking is easy and aplenty in this section of the Marion neighborhood.

Note: Both pools are free of charge and open exclusively to Jersey City residents – proof of residence is required.

Indoor Swimming

Pershing Field Pool, 201 Central Ave.

This indoor pool in Pershing Field Park in the Heights recently had some excellent upgrades including a brand-new retractable roof that lets the sunshine in and improves ventilation. Adult swim is Monday – Friday from 7am – 10am.

Note: This pool is open to both JC and non-JC residents. For those in JC, the fee is $3 per visit and for non-residents, $6 per visit.
