Another Stellar New Spot in JSQ – Belle Ame Café

Have you had a chance to check out Belle Ame Café? Opened since July, the Café is situated on a quiet residential block (76 Cottage St., to be exact) and is a mere four-minute walk to the JSQ Path Station. The proximity makes it an ideal morning stop for folks back in the commuting grind and in need of a great coffee and/or breakfast sandwich to get going. Locals have also taken to lingering and sitting inside or out after the morning rush. Either way, Belle Ame – which btw translates to “beautiful soul” in French – does not disappoint.

First off, the coffee. It is sourced from Nicaragua and bagged and sold for retail. The House Blend has a lovely balance – strongish yet super smooth. The barista espresso concoctions are also very good and there are rotating specials like maple pecan and pumpkin lattes. As for the food, Belle Ame flat out delivers. Egg sandwiches are served on croissants, bagels or Pao de Queijo (PDQ), which is savory Brazilian cheese bread. The three Toasts include nice updates on the now ubiquitous avocado toast. One comes with a sumac and olive oil drizzle, while the other is loaded with fun add-ons like watermelon radish, pickled jalapenos and more sumac. There are 3 salads to choose from (all with house-made dressing) and some seriously satisfying pressed sandwiches. Been awhile since we have been pressed {sorry, couldn’t resist} to have one and can’t recall why because when done right, they are so delicious. Besides the tuna, ham, pastrami and chicken options, the vegetarian choice is an absolute standout. The Fresh Mozzarella comes with basil pesto and sundried tomato and for all its simplicity, it is absolutely bursting with flavor and savory satisfaction.

The friendly staff and abundance of hanging plants contribute to the positive vibe at Belle Ame Cafe, so remember to check them out - they are well worth the minute-or-two trek off the beaten path.

Open Monday – Friday from 7am – pm and Saturday – Sunday from 8am – 3pm. Outdoor seating is available weather permitting. Follow them on IG at @belleamecafe for updates and delivery information.
