Ela Kitchen is Oh So Good
We needed a good Greek restaurant in JC and now we have one. Located on Newark Ave’s Pedestrian Plaza, Ela is authentically good because it is authentically GREEK.
To begin with, the salads. At Ela, you will not find something titled a “Greek Salad” on the menu. Instead, you will find the “Horiatiki”. This gloriously refreshing salad does not include Romaine, or any other lettuce typically found in the American-style version of said salad. Rather, the Horiatiki is simply and deliciously made up of tomatoes, green peppers, red onion, feta and perfectly dressed with house made Greek dressing. Our second favorite salad is the “Mediterranean Chopped Salad”. Same ingredients as above plus cucumbers, chickpeas, capers and crispy pieces of pita.
The Yeeros (heroes) are also outstanding – your choice of protein along with tomatoes, onion, tzatziki and fries stuffed inside. We like to skip the fries inside, but to each their own. You will find all the traditional Greek dishes here (Moussaka, Souvlaki, Spanakopita etc.) and desserts (Baklava, Walnut Cake, etc.).
