Enjoy Jersey’s Island Paradise This Summer
Summer at Last! From New Jersey’s State Parks to the bountiful beauty and fun of the Jersey Shore, we are looking forward to making the most of living in New Jersey this summer. That said, while we like to explore and mix it up, our favorite summer adventures are always at Island Beach State Park. If you have been, then you know what a unique and special place it is, this 3,000-acre barrier island between the Atlantic and Barnegat Bay, sandwiched between the bustling scenes at Seaside Heights and Long Beach Island. Boardwalks, busy beach scenes and brewpubs are fun for sure, but what really beckons us now is the pristine beach and unsullied nature, wildlife and gosh darn peace and quiet to be had at Island Beach.
The nine-mile road throughout the island is “inland” – meaning shady bushes keep the ocean view at bay. You will really see the island when you stop at one of the twenty-three lots along the way. The park is arranged into three areas. The North and South sides are preservation areas that also have trails and access areas for fishing, kayaking and eco-tours. The swimming beach lies in the middle and in season has lifeguards, bathrooms and concessions.
Island Beach State Park is Exit 82 off the Parkway and takes 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours from Jersey City. Note: if you are heading out on the weekend, make it early! The parking lots will fill up as early as 10am. The Park stays open until 8pm with swimming stopping at 6 pm. Oh and to make it all even more glorious – like all New Jersey State Parks, Island Beach will have free admission all summer. There is nothing stopping you from experiencing the natural wonder here. Serenity now!
