Much Love for Rustique

We sure do love our pizza in New Jersey. Talking about it, consuming it, comparing it and then consuming it more. Our appetite for the stuff seems endless so it is good that Jersey City keeps seeing new pizzerias opening and joining our already extensive roster of fine places. Speaking of our pizza pedigree. Of course, Dan Richter and his brilliant work at Razza deserve every accolade they receive – from the New York Times in 2017 declaring them the Best Pizza in New York to endless writeups and the legendary long waits. But pizza culture here has so much depth and diversity. So, we just want to pen a brief shoutout to a place that due to either its’ location or an oversaturated market seems to slip under the radar sometimes – Rustique.

It is located on a quiet residential street in Hamilton Park/Harsimus Cove, and we are big fans for a numberof reasons. For one the pizza here is unique in that it is heavier on the sauce than the cheese. The pizza sauce is deliciously tangy with just enough hints of both sweet and salt. It is also thin crust so it feels like a light meal as far as pizza is concerned. We love their classic margherita paired with what is our favorite salad in town. The Arugula Salad is served with cherry tomatoes, thin slabs of fresh parm and caramelized balsamic dressing. So simple and satisfyingly delicious. Rustique also has a full menu of Italian American style appetizers, hot entrees and hot and cold heros. We have a standing regular takeout order but for those eating in please be advised they are BYOB. Enjoy!
