Fuel up with BoyceMode at Club Base

The Power Plant Café by BoyceMode is now up and running at 60 Christopher Columbus Dr., at the ground floor of Club Base Gym. The all-vegan offerings of smoothies, juices and to-go meals are designed to fuel your body and mind with a balanced offering of nutrients that also taste flat-out delicious. As some of you might concur, it’s not so easy to make a vegan macaroni salad that tempts all. One bite into the side of it that came with our Buffalo “Chik’n” sandwich, and we were sold. It’s creamy and tangy and the sandwich delighted as well. We also really loved the Wheatberry Salad with garlic mint dressing, mandarins, kale and the tastiest, crunchiest chickpeas we have tasted. What’s also nice is that each packaged meal comes clearly labeled with calorie, carb, protein and fat counts – if you are into that sort of thing. To that, those of you involved in fitness and wellness in JC may already be familiar with Power Plant’s owner Sam through either his fitness classes and personal training services at Club Base, or through his vegan meal delivery service BoyceMode, which has been operating since 2012. Ordering one-off meals at the Café has the added benefit of allowing you to sample the delivery service before fully committing. We also love knowing that this menu was created by a fitness professional (Sam) whose dual diagnoses of hypertension and type 2 diabetes inspired him to complete transform his health and wellness and, by extension, physique.

The list of smoothies and juices is just as impressive. It’s a pretty saturated market to say the least, and yet there are some novel offerings here. We love the signature BoyceMode Body Fuel – 434 calories worth of bananas, blueberries, nut butter, antioxidants, hemp, chia and flax seeds, almond milk and 28 grams of plant-based protein. And who can resist the Sexual Chocolate – almond milk, chocolate protein powder, strawberries, cinnamon and oats all clocking in at just 300 calories. We also loved the spicy punch of the Inflammation Warrior Juice – filled with goodies like kale, celery, lemon, parsley, green apples, ginger and parsley. While we feel we have tasted some iteration of this drink before, it’s never tasted quite as good. Final note: If you’re looking to power up through another method – caffeine, namely – the Café is in partnership with JC’s The Grind Coffee Shop and serves coffees, espressos and lattes made with La Colombe Coffee.

Congratulations to Sam and may the force of BoyceMode fuel be with you!
