Golden Cicada is Reborn

The treasured Grand St. tavern is once again open for business, and for all you fans of the original Golden Cicada, you will be pleased to know that the building is in good hands – specifically, Eva Johannesdottir and Gary Keating from The Cliff in the Heights. They have reimagined the Golden Cicada as Baja Beergarden – serving great cocktails, a funky selection of beers, a carefully curated wine list, and classic Mexican food elevated up a notch.

Some of the most popular dishes from the Cliff, like the Cajun Shrimp and Avocado, are featured in the menu here as a shared plate. Others include the Blistered Shishito Peppers, Tuna Tartare, Fried Pickles and Plantains, a vegetarian chili made with Beyond Beef and a lovely Beet, Goat Cheese and Grapefruit Salad. The menu is light and healthy – there are four taco plates and two are vegetarian while the others are fish. Side plates include cilantro rice, house-cut fries and chips and salsa.

In other good news, Golden Cicada has outside seating now – utilizing the empty lot adjacent to it. They recently hosted a live music performance, and the plan is to continue with more music and sports as well. These are all nice enhancements to the original and beloved bar which is still very much represented. While the karaoke and baijiu shots may be gone, the original barstools remain as does the funky vibe.

The Golden Cicada Baja Beergarden is open Sunday through Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 12:00 am, closed on Wednesdays, and open Thursday through Saturday from 4:00 pm to 2:00 am.
