Gotan Debuts in JC

Just when we thought Jersey City had reached its saturation point with coffee shops, we realized we were wrong! Gotan is a delightful new addition to Paulus Hook, situated at the base of the Madox building on Morris and Van Vorst. This is the second Gotan Café – the first being in Tribeca. Both serve Counter Culture Coffee, organic teas and a simple, perfectly pared down menu.

All the current café drink and food standards are here and they are done exceptionally well. Yes, avocado toast is now beyond ubiquitous, but there is a reason for that. Simply put, it’s delicious and nurturing. The Gotan version is sublime. Served on a tasty, thick slab of multigrain bread, the avocado is topped with cherry tomatoes, radishes, red pepper flakes, feta and mint. Our flat white was super smooth and we loved the cheerful red mug and saucer it arrived in. We also are here for the mint lemonade and presence of Coke and Diet Coke in glass bottles, which is totally not ubiquitous. Owner Yuki also helms her eponymous bakery in Hoboken and serves her pastries here (cakes, breads, cookies, rugelach, etc) along with croissants from Balthazar. Other plates include a BLAAT sandwich, daily soup specials and salads.

Happy to have you in the neighborhood, Gotan!
