Out of the Way and Totally Worth It

We love the Indo-Chinese fusion at Szechuan Mirchi. This warmly lit, red-walled restaurant located on the far, far North outskirt of Newark Ave. feels like a secret. One of those secrets being a full parking lot, a luxury unheard of in the adjacent bustling part of Newark Ave’s Little India. In business here in JC for 8 years, Szechuan Mirchi’s cuisine is centered around popular Asian dishes infused with popular Indian spices. Open 7 days, the eclectic menu represents the diverse people and cultures of South Asia and Southeast Asia.

We love the tang of Indo-Chinese food – as an example dishes like the Szechuan Paneer – a standard Indian vegetaria dish  infused with chili-infused Szechuan red sauces. There are plenty of soups, noodle dishes and vegetarian, seafood, meat and poultry dishes for all. We also love the beautiful simplicity of Tibetan-style appetizers like the Vegetable Momo – steamed minced vegetables seasoned with delicious spices like anise and fennel. We guess. The lovely staff at Szechuan Mirchi were too busy serving great food to answer our every enthusiastic question.  Sometimes out of the way is the best way.
