Here’s to the Women of JC

Happy March and Happy Women’s History Month. We are in continual awe of the women in Jersey City who help make this town such a diverse, inclusive and fine place to live. With that, we would like to send a special shout out to two such women who are responsible for JC’s Art House Productions – Christine Goodman and Meredith Burns.

Hard to believe but it has been over 20 years since Christine Goodman founded Art House. A community leader and professional artist, she began the organization as an informal gathering and space for poets and community members to process and collectively grieve the events and aftermath of September 11. Since then, Art House evolved into a beacon of artistic, educational and cultural programming in Jersey City. Christine is now the Director of Cultural Affairs for Jersey City while the organization she founded continues to thrive under the current leadership of Meredith Burns. A professional actor, arts programmer and founder of Brooklyn’s Glass Bandits Theater Company, Meredith took over the reins at Art House in 2017. Two years later she received the NJCU Leadership Award for her contributions to the Arts and is widely recognized for her instrumental role in helping the Jersey City Arts Fund - New Jersey's first municipal trust fund dedicated to the arts – getting passed in 2020.  She currently serves as a trustee on the board of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance. The future of Art House continues to thrive under her leadership as the organization is slated this year to move into a permanent home at The Hendrix at 180 Morgan Street. Their new digs will include a gallery, black box theater and space for their administrative office.

Art House continues to provide community programs, student engagement and artist residencies, all of which is partially supported by their annual Snow Ball black tie gala and fundraiser. It is one of the hottest tickets on the JC social calendar. This years’ gala – themed as Into the Deep -  will be held at the Glass Gallery at Mana Contemporary on April 30 at 7pm. Ticket details are here: https://www.arthouseproductions.org/pages/snow-ball

See you there!
