JSQ’s Boulevard Drinks Still Going Strong

Before there was a Papaya King, before there was a Gray’s Papaya, there was Boulevard Drinks, located in the heart of Journal Square for nearly 70 years. The grilled hot dogs and classic fruity drinks have not lost their allure with time – in fact, quite the opposite. A stop at Boulevard Drinks before or after a movie showing at the adjacent Loew’s Theater is a tradition that has carried on through many generations of residents. While the lights may be temporarily dimmed at Loew’s, the show goes on at this classic hot dog joint.

Boulevard Drinks aficionados have strong opinions about their favorite dogs. Some swear by the Chili Cheese Dog, others pledge allegiance to the dog with mustard, ketchup, and onions, while others clamor for their hot dog to be served with a sausage topping. What all seem to agree on is the need to order not one but two hot dogs, along with a syrupy summer drink like the Lime Rickey or Pina Colada.

Yes, you can order from Boulevard Drinks on Seamless or Grubhub. But if you can swing it, an in-person trip to this tiny JC institution is well worth it. It is a nice reminder of simpler times, and kudos to the staff for still going strong!

48 Journal Square, open daily from 10am – 8:00 pm.
