Newport’s Coolest Coffee Shop

Coffee culture reigns supreme throughout the walkable neighborhoods of Jersey City. There is one great shop we think is potentially overlooked due to its location at the end of Newport heading to Hoboken – Bwè Café. The business began in Hoboken and the friendly, family-run café embraces all things Haitian (bwè cafe means “to drink coffee” in Haitian Creole).

The house-blend drip coffees all contain Haitian beans. Chilled drinks include a Japanese slow-drip coffee and the Bwè Cafe version of a frappé: an icy blend of cocoa, milk, and espresso. There are also daily soups, sandwiches (made with yummy Amy’s Bread), salads, vegan and gluten-free snacks, and retail pantry goodies. It is a destination spot if you are enjoying a waterfront walk. The coffee and food are one big plus, as is meeting the lovely staff of young folks who are enthusiastic about the goods they are serving, as well as the mission of the shop. Just one more reason to get your walk in!
