The involved process of baking sourdough bread at home somehow gained quick traction as a feel-good activity for many people in quarantine.  That includes Jersey City resident Thomaz Carmo, a New York City Chef who found himself furloughed at home alongside his wife Vivian. Hands-on weeks of work led this couple, both natives of Brazil, to create a perfected sourdough recipe that was the creative jump off to a new online business – Our Breads and Pies. The business has expanded beyond sourdough to a creative mix of breads, quiches, savory pies, and Italian breads. We have ordered and can attest that the products are delicious.

With over 15 years of experience as chef de cuisine at a multinational hotel chain, Thomaz has traveled the world and learned classic recipes from different countries. So while so many beloved dishes from his native country like pao de queijo (cheese bread), moqueca (seafood stew) and Brazilian-style chicken pot pie are on the regular menu or available as a special order, you can expect other treats from across the world. That includes an Ireland-inspired Guinness Pie and a Quiche Lorraine that any French-born chef would be proud to eat.

This lovely husband and wife team love to bake and create and are open to creating the customized carb-heavy dish of your dreams As of now, Our Breads and Pies delivers to Harsimus Cove and downtown Jersey City at no charge. Deliveries to other parts of Jersey City cost $5, whereas deliveries outside of the city cost $10. Order though their Instagram account -  https://www.instagram.com/ourbreads/. We see big things for this homegrown JC business!
