You Need to Know About Veloce

Get ready for the best chicken sandwich of your life.

We are hooked – hooked, we tell you – on Veloce Specialty Sandwiches. Located on a quiet residential stretch of Baldwin Ave. in the Heights, Veloce is a hidden-ish gem.

We say hidden-ish because while the whole town might not know of Veloce, loyal regulars do. Regulars mean out-of-town but in-the-know Italian foodies, neighborhood residents and folks like us, who had the luck to learn about Veloce while working on a project local to their shop. Get it on this.

Walk in and allow the waft of the most perfectly prepared chicken cutlet to take over your senses. Veloce serves chicken cutlet sandwiches in every iteration possible – mostly cold, some hot, and with the usual preparations you would want from an Italian sandwich shop. And it is not entirely about chicken, chicken. There are salads as well as vegetarian options that expectantly focus around eggplant, mozzarella and tomato.

Our big reveal is that our favorite sandwich is the Number 7. A cold grilled chicken sandwich served with arugula, bacon, asiago cheese, and ranch dressing. This is the perfect sandwich.  The chicken slices are thinly sliced before they are grilled. You know the difference. Rather than a grilled whole chicken breast that can be dry or rough in the middle, the individually grilled slices in these sandwiches are tangy, juicy and perfectly seasoned. The staff here is super nice, you can eat in or out, and there is a great selection of Pellegrino sodas on top of it all.
