Rabble and Lion Sets up Shop in the Village

Jersey City does not lack for representation when it comes to coffee culture – great cafes abound in every neighborhood. So, it says alot that there was so much anticipation for the newly opened Rabble and Lion coffee shop in the Village. It is their first brick and mortar location after having been regulars at downtown farmers markets in Hamilton Park and Van Vorst – even naming one of their signature coffee blends after the latter. The entrepreneurs also run The Analog Blend, an online subscription service that fuses their love of coffee and music with bags of whole-bean coffee and new or vintage vinyl that is curated and selected by Jersey City-based DJ and music expert DJ Prestige from Flea Market Funk. If you are curious to know what kind of music will be sent your way, check out the Analog Blend playlist on Spotify – it is super funky and fun.

The Rabble and Lion coffee shop is currently open from 8am – 2pm. Those hours are subject to change and expand once hiring of staff is complete. The coffee is roasted at Pulley Collective in Brooklyn, and it is their practice to blend on the light-to-medium side to bring out the creative complexity of the flavors. As example – the Ethiopia Duromina has tasting notes of Blood Orange, Chocolate Brownie and Raspberry Pink Lemonade. The twelve blends are all responsibly sourced from regions of Africa and South and Central America. The blend for the coffee of the day rotates. Choose from lattes, a pour over, a flat white, or a regular ol’ drip coffee. Fun note – we tried Macadamia nut milk in our coffee for the first time. We found it sweeter and less nutty tasting than other non-dairy options we have had. Rabble and Lion also serves pastries from Whealth Café. They have some cute merch too (hats, mugs, etc.). Kudos to Rabble and Lion for being such a unique addition to the JC coffee scene.
