Take a Little Break this Season at Café Dolma

Café Dolma is a true gem. It is tiny and beyond charming – the standalone building on Grand Street transports you to a European-style feel where people actually take time during the day to linger over amazing food and great coffee. We loved it when it was a dinner spot, and we love it just as much in its reinvention as a breakfast and lunch cafe. There are no more than six tables to dine inside now that the outdoor patio is closed during winter. What Dolma lacks in size it more than makes up for in the incredible flavors of the food – Turkish classic dishes and an expanded menu of egg sandwiches, salads, sandwiches on ciabatta and just the most delicious Mediterranean dishes. While the hustle and bustle of the holiday season encroaches, this is the perfect time to grab your bestie to take a break and settle in for a leisurely lunch of elevated comfort food.

There really is nothing like Turkish food. It is healthy (ish), hearty, and just so full of flavor. Their most popular dish is the cilbir  – poached eggs served with perfectly roasted vegetables and labneh – a creamy dreamy yogurt stuffed with herbs. The dish is rounded out with lovely pita and an insanely delicious green sauce of mint, parsley, EVOO and anchovies. Note for all vegetarians – the affable owner who presides over meal service is happy to recreate this sauce sans the anchovies. Another can’t-miss dish is the lamb moussaka. This can be one of those dishes better made at home – but the version here is top-rate. Beautiful tomato sauce and the most tenderly cooked lamb. If you have room left, treat yourself to the chocolate doughnut for dessert. These have been challenging times for all of us – you deserve it!
