Have you checked out SMUSH Gallery in the Heights? It is a super cool art gallery and community event space run by multidisciplinary artist Katelyn Heller. And can we say hats off to her and all Jersey City artists and institutions who found creative ways to come out of the other side of the pandemic intact. Like many of her colleagues, Heller presented workshops, art openings and events virtually but the gallery is once again open for shows, with limited capacity requirements in place.

An Artist's Duty features the work of three female artists - Stephanie Geremito, Grace Kim, and Sara Lauth. The title references this famous quote by the late, great Nina Simone; “An artist’s duty, as far as I’m concerned, is to reflect the times.”  The show is packed with portraits of creative icons and other public figures who push for social justice and, ultimately, give hope. The show runs until June 12, and you can also check out the online gallery here https://www.smushgallery.com/anartistsduty

Online events are still going strong, including the Work/Share Program.  Creatives from all artistic disciplines are invited to share works in progress and receive constructive feedback. Up to 5 presenters can be accommodated per session, and an unlimited number of audience members can join. The next session is June 21 from 6:30 – 9pm.
