Sweetgreen - Fresh, Clean Fast food is Here in JC
Our favorite healthy food chain has opened their first New Jersey location here at 90 Hudson St. The 2900 square foot space is offering outdoor patio seating now as well as online ordering, pickup and delivery.
Sweetgreen’s devout following comes for the super-healthy menu of seasonal dishes, salads, warm bowls, and plates filled with greens, veggies, and other plant-based foods. Sweetgreen is not solely vegetarian, however. In fact, our two favorite dishes are the Fish Taco Bowl (roasted steelhead trout, shredded cabbage, cilantro, tortilla chips, warm quinoa, arugula, sweetgreen hot sauce, lime cilantro jalapeño vinaigrette) and the Buffalo Chicken Bowl Salad (blackened chicken, pickled carrots + celery, tomatoes, cilantro, blue cheese, za'atar breadcrumbs, shredded kale, chopped romaine, sweetgreen hot sauce, caesar dressing). We also love the Kale Caesar Salad (with chicken) and the garlicky Cauli Rice and Beans on the side. Vegetarians and vegans looking to add some proteins to their greens can choose between the Shroomami bowl (roasted sesame tofu, warm portobello mix, raw beets, cucumbers, basil, spicy sunflower seeds, warm wild rice, shredded kale, miso sesame ginger dressing) and the Tofu Steak and Sweet Potatoes (roasted tofu steak, hot roasted sweet potatoes, basil, tomatoes, black lentils, raw carrots, spicy sunflower seeds, cauliflower rice, lemon squeeze, spicy cashew dressing). You can also make your own bowl – pick your base, greens, dressing, etc. And gluten-free options are very prominent on the menu.
Now, for the small caveat. We have had some issues with our online orders here in Jersey City and concur with others that the portions are significantly smaller than those we have had in NYC. That includes the delicious dressings that didn’t quite cover our salad. We trust that the Sweetgreen staff in JC will figure it out in time – opening a restaurant and finding your stride can be challenging at the best of times, after all. That said, we are very happy to have Sweetgreen here, and will definitely keep ordering!
