Taco Bar Takes off in McGinley Sq.

Taco Bar, you had us at Birria Ramen. Sure, Birria tacos are pretty commonplace these days in new Mexican cuisine. If you have yet to try, Birria is a sweet and savory, slow-cooked beef stew. When put in tacos, the stew is strained and situated gloriously between two taco shells. But at Taco Bar, you can also get it as an entrée with the broth intact and filled with ramen noodles, cilantro, radish and onion.

Taco Bar is yet another welcome addition to McGinley Square from the team that previously brought Carvao and ITA Kitchen to the neighborhood. The taco menu includes Carnitas (slow-roasted pork), Chorizo with potato and cheese, Carne Asada, and Camarón – grilled shrimp with avocado, pico de gallo and a chipotle crema.  Vegans and all others can check out the Vegano taco, made with roasted squash, vegan crema, black beans and pumpkin seeds.

The menu of small bites to share is short and sweet yet full of Mexican faves like chips and salsa, Mexican Street corn, ceviche and arroz con frijoles (red rice with refried beans).  There are two desserts – churros with chocolate ganache and Pastel Maya, a flourless chocolate cake.

As cozy and compact as Taco Bar may be, they have a full-service bar and an inviting cocktail list. Rest assured there are margaritas and other tequila drinks, Mexican beer and even Mexican wines. We have our eye on the Flor de Jamaica (hibiscus-infused gin, yellow chartreuse, lemon juice, agave and egg white) and the Rubi (vodka, Aperol, St. Germain, grapefruit and a lemon simple syrup).

Taco Bar is open Monday to Saturday from 7pm to 12am. Follow them on IG @tacobarjc for updates.
