This Café Shall Remain Nameless

A fabulous new café is open on St. Paul’s and Liberty Avenues. The pretty corner shop is the former home of Square 1 Eatery and shares the same welcoming neighborhood vibe. Open daily from 7am to 8pm (weekend opening times may be delayed to 8), this spot serves coffee in many iterations. Along with the house coffees and specialty espresso drinks there are cold chais, cold brews and matchas. If you are looking for a pour over, this café offers six exotic options including single origin coffee beans aged with notes of pink bourbon and rum. They also have a great selection of fresh juices. We especially like the Clarity – cucumber, celery, spinach and lime with a ginger kicker and the Sweet Carrot Line – carrot, apple and ginger.

As for food, the café serves sweet Italian breakfast pastries, croissants and vegan muffins along with desserts like a mixed berry tart, cheesecake, tiramisu and crème brulee. For a more substantial bite, the menu includes six panini sandwiches. The El Raul is a filling, comforting mix of pastrami, gruyere, swiss, sauerkraut and mustard vinaigrette while the Caprese (mozzarella, tomato, evoo and basil) is the sole vegetarian option.

There is plenty of comfortable seating and the team is nice as can be. What’s missing? Just one thing – a name! And that’s intentional. “We want this to be for everyone in the neighborhood,” says affable owner Wilson, an 18-year food industry veteran. He confidently opened shop with no name, no social media, and no plans to incorporate any of that in the future. It was in fact a neighbor who christened the spot the Unnamed Café, under which you will find it on its sole online presence on Yelp. Rest assured, however, that they do have Wi-Fi!
