Allow us to shout out one of our favorite chocolate shops ever - L’Atelier du Chocolat. Opened in 2015, this tiny chocolate store/café came with a big pedigree. It is the second retail location for Master Chocolatier Eric Girerd. The Jersey City resident is a native of Annecy, France and has worked in 3-star Michelin restaurants around the world before opening his first retail store in NYC in 2002. L’Atelier du Chocolat was recognized in 2013 by the New York Times as having one of the 10 best sea salt caramels in America and named the 2014 Top Ten Best Chocolatiers in North America by Dessert Professional Magazine.

Of course, taste is everything before accolades. And try these chocolates you must. Girerd is renowned for the top-tier cocoa beans he uses in his famous salted caramels and truffles. His shop here added café drinks and savory French pastries to give PATH commuters a second to savor French flavors and atmosphere in his red and gold-gilded storefront, located at the base of Grove Pointe on Marin Boulevard. While the tables are not open these days, the shop is open for takeout. Stop in to sample a chocolate, croissant, or drool over the the macaroons, ganache’s, tarts, turnovers, and specialty pastries like the Tropezienne – an orange-blossom flavored brioche topped with vanilla cream.

Girerd also creates sublime specialty cakes to order in advance. You can also order custom gift boxes of his famous confections. Ordering is available via the usual food delivery sites we are so used to these days, but you can also order directly via https://www.egchocolates.com/order.
