What’s New at Yaso Tangbao
Yaso Tangbao opened their 4th location last November at 30 Hudson. It was the team’s first foray into JC following on the success of their popular NYC restaurants in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Head Chef Zongxing Tu is the creative culinary force behind their famed and acclaimed authentic Shanghainese soup dumplings, rhapsodically written about in the New York Times, New York Mag and Grub Street among others. Chef originally honed his craft at the very first Joe’s Shanghai in Queens. It was 6 years ago since he opened the first Yaso Tangbao and the business retains a devoted clientele in NYC – where love of soup dumplings reigns supreme.
Since Yaso Tangbao opened over here, the business has dealt with a shortage of soup dumplings, due to a price surge and transportation difficulties around the key ingredients used. Thankfully, that issue was resolved in June. On another bright note, they have expanded the menu options. We recently sampled some new vegan items like the Crispy Vegan Rolls and Sticky Rice Dumplings, along with one of our old veggie favorites – the Steamed Vegetable Bao Buns. The crispy rolls are a deep-fried bit of deliciousness, but we really loved the dumplings over all else – the rice is aromatic, perfectly sticky and especially good with their Ginger Vinegar and their Soy Sauce. We scooped up a bottle of each for home. Shrimp Dumplings are another new addition to the menu as is an expanded range of bases for your main dish including thin or flat dry noodles, noodles in chicken broth, and white rice. So yes, while Yaso Tangbao made their name through their Pork and Chicken Soup Dumplings, there is plenty more to taste here. Speaking of, those delicious dumplings, you can also order up a large bunch of them frozen to take home. Large batch meals to go and catering services are available as well.
