What’s New in ’22 at Asbury Park

Asbury Park has always been a big draw for fun-loving beachgoers thanks to its welcoming and diverse crowd, an active sceney boardwalk, great live music and a thriving downtown and nightlife. The props got bumped up a notch when Travel + Leisure recently named it one of the Top 25 Beaches in the U.S., citing all the stuff us New Jerseyans already know and love about Asbury including the large LGBTQ population, the splash pad, mini golf and pinball museum, the great grub and live music venues like the Stone Pony, where you-know-who got his start.  They also mentioned something that often gets overlooked when discussing Asbury. The beach! It is a mile-long white sandy beach with dare we say the most iconic lifeguards we have seen in action. T + L did not mention them in their write-up so allow us the chance. This is a very busy beach and we have seen the lifeguards – who appear to range in age from high school to retiree age – do it all. One crazy Sunday of riptides we watched them rescue the same trio of fools five times in one hour. All with not a gripe. That is just so, well, Asbury. Also, a quick note on food. The great options are many including Langosta Lounge which is right on the Boardwalk and very generous with their portions, their pour, and the public use of their bathrooms. Another great spot not on the beach is Sami’s Mediterranean Street Food, at 300 Main St. We love getting their Falafel Bowls to go and always with a side of their incredible Batata Harra (spicy cubed potatoes with lemon).

Asbury is Exit 102 or 105 off the Parkway and is about 1 hour and ten minutes from JC. You can also get there via NJ Transit – visit here for more info:  https://www.njtransit.com/tickets/deals-and-discounts
