Wishing a Long Life to Short Grain

Hard to believe but it has been 7 years since Short Grain opened in Jersey City. Located adjacent to City Hall on Montgomery Street, this tiny Asian-inspired eatery became an instant staple. City Hall workers, locals and commuters flocked to the shop for the excellent coffee drinks, Balthazar pastries and healthy and delicious dishes served morning to dinner hours. Favorites remain the Avocado Toast. As ubiquitous as this dish is, Short Grain’s version remains a favorite because it is perfectly executed with feta, lemon and pickled red onion. We also love the Green Eggs and SPAM with salsa Verde and toast. Another beloved breakfast dish is the Lemon Ricotta Hotcakes – a sweet and savory delight with egg, bacon and maple syrup. Lunchtime is when the Asian flavors kick in with sandwiches like the Vietnamese Cold Cut, Pate and Eggs, Coconut Curry Chicken and veg options like the Roasted Cauliflower and Sesame Tofu Sandwiches. Small plates include Kale and Cabbage Salad with peanut vinaigrette, Vietnamese Poached Chicken Salad and shrimp-filled or vegan Rice Paper Rolls. All the sandwich dishes are also available served as a grain or noodle bowl.

Short Grain has implemented outside seating with heat – a nice spot to sip your coffee or slurp your noodles as you watch City life pass by. It is a nice group of people behind Short Grain, and it is so nice to see that they are still thriving.

183 Montgomery St.  Monday – Friday from 7am – 9pm, Saturday – Sunday from 8am – 7pm.
